This website was created to help Wellingtonians understand what’s being proposed in the Council’s draft Long-term Plan, as well as enabling them to provide instant feedback and make formal submissions. People can use this website to engage with the consultation process in a number of different ways – not just through the traditional and formal submission process.

We are being transparent by instantly publishing all feedback and comments captured on this website. It’s possible to use the feedback map to drill right down to each suburb in Wellington to find out what people think. We hope that this is helpful for Wellingtonians, as well as for our elected officials.

We are using all of our digital channels to reach as many people as we can, and gather as much feedback as possible. The more people that engage, the better informed we’ll be.

Who made this website?

This website was created in six weeks by the Council’s Digital Team, in partnership with local customer experience design agency DNA (who did a fantastic job dealing with ever-changing requirements). This website reuses the base technology that Council invested in during the creation of the website last year. We hope to use this website for future large and complex consultations.

The content management system (CMS) that this website is built on is Silverstripe (version 3.1). This is the same CMS recommended and used by the Government’s Common Web Platform (CWP). It would be great if this consultation platform was made available to all users of the CWP.

The informal feedback forms were created using Typeform. Google Maps was used for the feedback map, and chart.js is used to create the pie charts. All of these products and services were integrated into Silverstripe using various APIs.

After the consultation period ends, we hope to release the data captured by Typeform so that others can analyse it and draw their own conclusions.
