The Council is considering a proposal for installation of a third artificial turf sports field at the National Hockey Stadium in Berhampore, to accommodate growing demand and improve the stadium’s capacity to host hockey tournaments and events.
Participation in hockey has grown significantly in the last decade, to a point where the stadium is now operating at capacity with 95 percent winter utilisation rate. Wellington players frequently have to travel out of town for games.
Wellington Hockey Association is also proposing an upgrade of the existing stadium.

An upgrade to the stadium and providing a spectator stand would be beneficial and provide a better venue for playing and watching international competitions in the Wellington Region. It does need to go hand in hand with a campaign to bring more sports like hockey to wellington.

The current stadium has served well but increasing capacity is key to future development of hockey. The facilities are integral to preserving and impoving the "club" scene given the centralising of hockey around turfs. Stadium upgrade is urgently needed.

As a secondary teacher/Hockey coach at Upper Hutt College I have seen the benefit of the Maidstone turf being built in our local area (for training, playing and having a local fortress). Playing at NHS holds more mana as it is often for Finals and they are easily the best playing surfaces in the Wellington region.

Great to see support for a growing sport. Please don't forget to support us adjoining clubs & protect our right to continue our activities without being too unduly impacted - I'm probably talking about parking: don't take up all of our carparking!

Great idea to help ease congestion on current turfs plus means Wellington can host some big tournaments and that benefits business too

It would provide a more attractive surface and venue for international games therefore attracting more attention to hockey in wellington as well as developing future hockey players.

It's important to have facilities like these in order to better accommodate both local, national and international events. Another important consideration is a general lack of high quality hockey turfs in the Wellington region. With another on the cards, as part of Fraser Park - Sportsville, Wellington is becoming a stronger hub for Hockey in the central New Zealand region.

Given we are at 95% capacity it appears there is demand for this development. Investing in diversified sports will be good for future generations
